Dahlia Allen
Dahlia Allen is a writer. While she has thought “taking pictures” was fun since she got a camera for her 16th birthday, she has never considered herself a photographer.
She shot photos as a job survival skill. Her camera was a Pentax with an auxiliary flash and lots of knobs to turn. She learned on the job to shoot news and feature photos daily during her 25 years as a newspaper reporter. At the same time, she honed her skills beginning by photographing her children and pets and on to grandchildren – and pets.
Post retirement, she became aware of the flowers in her yard and shot photos with her cell phone as a way to keep them alive. She enjoys experimenting with downloading and editing her photos, often framing them for gifts. Through Art Dublin, she recognizes photography as an art that is available to her to enjoy and share her skills.
Dahlia enjoyed careers as a high school and college English teacher, a journalist and an educational administrator. She retired from Oconee Fall Line Tech as dean of adult education. She is a graduate of Georgia Southern University with undergraduate and graduate degrees in English and of the University of Georgia with a doctorate in adult education. She has a son and a daughter and three grandsons – and many, many photos of them.
